- Dear friends,
this article explains some of the reasons why High Resolution files (or discs by the way) don't always sound better than the CD (or vinyl...).

What are your experiences?

Hi Manfred,
I was able to listen to the higher resolution in these files:

http://www.playclassics.com/album6
The 16/44,1 version was downsampled from the 24/96 original.
I was really surprised about the outcome.
I had listened to the recordings a reasonably amount of times before in 24/96 and it didn't take too long to identify the shortcomings of the 16/44,1 version.
And once I nailed the characteristics of those shortcomings it was hard to miss them.
I can still enjoy 16/44,1 but I am convinced of it's lower fidelity.
Best,
Ricardo
