"Cleaning a Thorens TD124 platter mat without any expensive chemicals , a very nice touch for an otherwise dull 60 year old platter mat , magic treatment , we have been doing this for a very long time here in the shop , there is no detrimental affect to our LPs , the treatment lasts for years ,,, or ,,, spend money on a rubber rejuvenation fluid and do that once a month
1 ) remove the mat from the platter
2 ) lay it on a flat surface , scrub the mat with dish washing liquid and water using a stiff bristle brush , be sure to scrub along the grooves in the mat not across them , you want to get the bristles deep into the grooves to get all the dirt off , the soap will turn black with oxidized rubber .
3 ) rub dry thoroughly with an old clean terry towel again getting into the grooves of the mat , the towel will also show black oxidized rubber .
4 ) the magic - spray the mat with common Lemon Pledge furniture polish , soak it good , then scrub the mat with the Pledge using a dry stiff bristle brush getting into the grooves , wipe it off with a dry terry towel and you are done , You may do this last step twice for badly oxidized mats .
This will last a long time , with the before and after photos we did the last shown finished platter mat a year ago"
