Miracle Mirror is Golden Earring's third album and is recorded after the band made a few changes in their lineup. This meant that Miracle Mirror is a very different album than its two predecessors. One thing that the three albums do have in common is that they are all very much reflecting what's going on in the British music scene at that moment. In case of Miracle Mirror this means that psychedelia dominates, like the folkie "Gipsy Rhapsody", the blues-influenced "Must I Cry?" or the grand scale pop number "Crystal Heaven". After 45 years this album still sounds spot-on and has gracefully worn the test of time!

Earth And Fire - Earth And Fire
Hailing from The Hague's blossoming '60s rock scene, Earth & Fire were already a well-known Prog group in The Netherlands before they broke through internationally. Their early psychedelic influences range from Led Zeppelin to Jefferson Airplane, with some touches of Focus's Prog prowess and Shocking Blue's sound, show on their debut album Earth & Fire (1970). The Music On Vinyl issue comes in a matchbook style.

Alquin - Marks
Dutch Prog Rockers Alquin delivered their first album Marks in 1972. Marks contains eight songs that prove the musical force of this young group who at the time were still in their University attending days. However influences of Pink Floyd and Roxy Music are apparent, Alquin succeeded in shaping their own style. Sometimes Jazzy, there are even Folk influences on this varied album. Highly recommended record.

Boudewijn De Groot - Picknick
Influenced by The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Boudewijn De Groot and his lyricist Lennaert Nijgh wanted to create the ultimate hippie album. This resulted in Picknick (1967) on which they heavily experimented with psychedelic lyrics and music. The album cover is designed by the Dutch artist Marijke Koger who was the ultimate visionary of hippie aesthetics. Amongst others she created album art and costumes for The Beatles and painted Eric Clapton's and George Harrison's guitars. She also painted the mural on the theater that debuted the musical ´Hair´ and the murals for The Beatles´ Apple Boutique.

Kayak - Phantom Of The Night
Kayak is a well known Prog group from the Netherlands that released multiple albums during the '70s. The band is influenced by bands like Yes, Genesis and Queen, the latter for which Kayak opened a tour in 1974. The band recorded Phantom Of The Night in 1978, introducing a new singer. Their move toward a more Poppy sound is apparent on this album, featuring simpler time signatures, synthesized sounds and clean vocals. Biggest hit proved "Ruthless Queen", a slow paced staple on Dutch radio.

De Dijk (literally translated: Dyke or Levee) is a Dutch band that sing in Dutch since the early '80s. They enjoy huge popularity in Holland and Belgium, showcasing poetic lyrics and catchy Pop songs. Niemand In De Stad (Nobody In The City) is their fifth album, recorded in 1989.

A movie inspired by '70s Kung Fu movies and godfathered by Quentin Tarantino, The Man With The Iron Fists is RZA's first step into directing as one of his many contributions to this film: the fabled producer of the Wu-Tang Clan is credited as writer, director, main actor AND score producer of this violent outburst of humor and action. For the soundtrack RZA worked together with genre defining artists like Black Keys, Wu-Tang Clan and Kanye West. The Man With The Iron Fists OST will have a limited first run on pink vinyl; definitely something to look out for!

Gene Clark - No Other
Gene Clark was one of the founding members, singers and principal songwriters of The Byrds. His body of work stands out as a beacon in the Country Rock genre. No Other from 1972 was a visionary recording. According to Allmusic: "What it adds up to is a sprawling, ambitious work that brought elements of country, folk, jazzed-out gospel, blues, and trippy rock to bear on a song cycle that reflects the mid-'70s better than anything from that time, yet sounds hauntingly timely even now."

Debut album Heavy (1968) contains raw songs with the psychedelic rock sound that Iron Butterfly would become famous for: a loose vibe, heavy riffs, pulsating organs, thunderous drums and bluesy soloing. It was originally released in 1994 and together with its follow-up Different Class it is considered to be one of the highlights of 90's Britpop. Who's Next is the fifth studio album by The Who, originally released in 1971. The album has its roots in the Lifehouse project, a science fiction rock opera intended as a follow-up to Tommy. The ambitious, complex project did not come to fruition at the time and instead, many of the songs written for the project were compiled onto Who's Next. The album features the singles "Baba O'Riley", "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" making it one of The Who's most critical as well as commercial successful records.

Billy Joel - Streetlife Serenade

Billy Joel proved with his previous album Piano Man [MOVLP521] that he could be a lyrical bard and a commercial hit. He didn't want to compromise or sell out, something he made absolutely clear on the follow up Streetlife Serenade, where in "The Entertainer" he sang 'It was a beautiful song but it ran too long./If you're gonna have a hit, you gotta make it fit./So they cut it down to 3:05.' (His label had cut the running time of "Piano Man" for the single version). And thus started his beef with the entertainment industry. This is the first vinyl re-issue since 1975!

Gun Club - Miami

The Gun Club was formed by Jeffrey Lee Pierce, former head of the Blondie fan club in Los Angeles. Joining him was Brian Tristan, who was later renamed Kid Congo Powers during his stint with The Cramps. By 1982, the band had signed to Blondie guitarist Chris Stein's Animal Records and temporarily relocated to New York to record 1982's Miami. This album features Stein as producer, and you can hear Debbie Harry on backup vocals on select tracks. This is hardcore snake-charming music, evil, smoky, and brash. In the bird's-eye view of history its songs are all classics.

Slowdive - Pygmalion

When Slowdive disbanded in 1995 music fans widely associated it with the demise of the shoegaze genre. Their last sign of life was Pygmalion and it was, after Just For A Day [MOVLP354] and Souvlaki [MOVLP202] a totally different and more abstract album. They began to incorporate more elements of ambient electronica on Pygmalion. Tracks like "Blue Skied An' Clear" and "Crazy For You" demonstrate that the songs are still there, somewhere -- they're just buried under more abstract sounds than before. Music On Vinyl is very proud to complete the Slowdive catalogue with this stylistic masterpiece!

Janne Schra - Janne Schra

Janne Schra used to be lead singer in the band Room Eleven, a big name in the Dutch music scene. The albums Six White Russians and Mmm Gumbo sold over 100.000 copies combined. The singles "Hey Hey Hey", "Bitch" and "Lovely Morning" were picked up by various radio stations. As from 2012, Janne started performing under her own name and now finally releases her debut solo album. On Janne Schra, she works with a variety of skilled musicians, producers and writers. For example M. Ward, Torre Florim of Dutch band De Staat, Tobias Fröberg who has previously worked for Ane Brun and Martijn Groeneveld who works with Blaudzun. Most songs on the album are sensitive and Janne's voice perfectly fits this ambiance. She is a regular guest on national Dutch radio station 3FM. Ever since she performed her version of "One Day (Reckoning Song)" she immediately connected with a bigger audience. Therefore, this song is included as a bonus track on this album. The album Janne Schra is a an absolute must for fans of Beth Gibbons (Portishead), Aimee Mann and Suzanne Vega.

Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf

The eponymous debut album of Steppenwolf cemented a fine foundation for their careers as the song "Born To Be Wild" launched the popularity of the band into the stratosphere virtually overnight. Ronettes - Presenting The Fabulous Ronettes
The Ronettes were a '60s girl group from New York City, produced by world famous Wall Of Sound inventor Phil Spector. Their legacy include all time favourites like "Be My Baby", "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part Of) Breakin' Up" and "Walking in the Rain", the latter winning a Grammy award in 1965. Presenting The Fabulous Ronettes (featuring Veronica) is the girl group's only studio album, and received a place in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. The group were even inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2004.

Sanctuary - Refuge Denied
Refuge Denied (1987) is the first album of the Seattle Thrash Metal band Sanctuary. Initially picked up by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, the band recorded two albums for Epic and unfortunately disbanded not long after. Mustaine took the honor to produce Refuge Denied, and to good effect. Refuge Denied would prove to be the stepping stone to the equally excellent follow-up Into The Mirror Black. Dane and Sheppard would later form Prog Metal kings Nevermore.

The song "The Tide Is High" is best known as a huge hit for Blondie, but originally it was a hit for the Paragons in the '60s. Formed in Kingston, Jamaica, The Paragons originally started out as a vocal group heavily influenced by American Soul music. The Paragons became the most popular Rocksteady vocal act in Jamaica and in Britain. Their recordings are still some of the most wonderful and sublime moments in Jamaican Pop.

Tim Buckley - Tim Buckley
This self-titled work is Tim's (Jeff's father) debut album, originally released in 1966. Most of the songs were co-written by Buckley and Larry Beckett while still in high school. It also features lifelong friend and collaborator Lee Underwood as well as Van Dyke Parks. This mostly folk oriented album was the start of a incredibly versatile career in which he later incorporated Jazz, Psychedelia, Funk, Soul, Avant-garde.

E foi assim que este tópico começou. E salientado a tua ultima frase, tem sido sempre essa a filosofia do AAP como julgo que todos sabem (ou deveriam de saber), e seja em que compras forem.

Ok, ok, não batam mais no ceguinho ... mas agora pergunto eu ... e a Analogue? E a Prestige? E a Blue Note? E a JPC? E a Deutsche Gramophone? E a ... e a ... (no meio disto, devo ter mandado umas bacoradas, mas pronto).

Desculpem lá a minha sinceridade, mesmo com a "achega" do Jorge, para mim não faz qq sentido "privilegiar" (acrescendo as actualizações sucessivas) qualquer que seja a editora, independentemente da EXCELENTE qualidade que qq uma possa ter, mas quem sou eu para pôr em causa o que quer que seja nesta casa.

Falar de uma ou outra editora, reconhecendo-a como uma excelente editora de qualidade, é uma coisa ... postar sucessivamente, em jeito de actualização, levou-me a crer que havia alguma obrigatoriedade em fazê-lo, ou por serem sócios, ou por qualquer outro compromisso.


PS : de certeza que não sou o unico a pensar desta maneira, só que eu digo

Al DiMeola's second album Elegant Gypsy (1977) proved to become one of the defining albums in Fusion. While being still a member of Return To Forever, DiMeola delivered his sophomore solo record after Land Of The Midnight Sun [MOVLP586] by collaborating with Jazz Rock giants Steve Gadd, Jan Hammer and Anthony Jackson. He even enlists Flamenco superstar Paco De Lucia on "Mediterranean Sundance", a song which predicts the style DiMeola would eventually evolve into: Latin tinged acoustic wizardry. Elegant Gypsy was certified Gold in the United States.

Recordings for Are You Experienced had begun in late October 1966, producing a string of singles preceding the illustrious first album by the world's most famous guitarist. The debut album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience was initially issued in mono and then 'enhanced stereo' on later issues.

Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced =MONO= US Version

The USA & Canadian issues of Are You Experienced were released after the band appeared at the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967, along with The Who. Its art was directed by Ed Thrasher, using a Karl Ferris infra-red fish-eye photo.
There is a key difference to the tracks on this album, with some removed and replaced by the earlier singles, plus a change to the running order. The spelling "Foxey Lady" appears in some of these issues, and has been adopted for the Music On Vinyl mono reissue.

Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold As Love =MONO=

Axis: Bold as Love, the second Experience album, was released merely six months after their debut LP Are You Experienced, at the end of 1967. Many of the album's songs were composed with complex studio recording techniques in mind and as a result were rarely performed live.
The original mono pressing was intended to cater to those listeners with outdated hifi equipment, and therefore this is a rare piece of Hendrix' legacy. The Music On Vinyl reissue of the mono mix makes this evergreen available for contemporary ears again.

J.J. Cale - Okie

J.J. Cale's signature laid back, bluesy style of Country Rock has distinguished him from contemporary early '70s singers. His unique sound shows on his third album Okie (1974), where he merges these influences with Gospel.
His influence on other artists lead to multiple cover versions of "Got The Same Old Blues" with Freddie King, Eric Clapton, Captain Beefheart, Bobby Bland, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bryan Ferry all tipping their hats to JJ. Mother Love Bone was founded in 1988 by future Pearl Jam's guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament as an outlet for their Punk and Glam urges.
The band's promising career was primarily cut short by the tragic death of vocalist Andrew Wood in 1990, after having released just one EP called Shine. More material from studio recordings with Wood was released as the Apple album.
In 1992, Mother Love Bone was released as a combination of both releases – holding itself together as a seminal album with two bonus tracks: "Capricorn Sister" and "Lady Godiva Blues". First 1500 copies are pressed on heavy weight purple vinyl!

Gov't Mule - Life Before Insanity

Life Before Insanity is Gov't Mule's fifth album, released in 2000 to great critical acclaim. Precious tracks on this album include the haunting title track, the powerful "Wandering Child", "No Need To Suffer" and "Lay Your Burden Down" (the latter two are featuring Ben Harper on vocals). The most hit sensitive track proved to be "Bad Little Doggie", a ZZ-Top like burner, which received lots of airplay.
Life Before Insanity was the last album featuring Allman Brothers Band bassist Allen Woody, who tragically died just six months after its release.

How Dare You (1976) is the fourth album by these British Art-Pop Rockers. After attaining worldwide success with their hit "I'm Not In Love", 10cc returned with a varied set of songs, often tongue-in-cheek humor and eccentric songwriting. Hits "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" and "Art For Art's Sake" are little stories with wonderful poppy hooks and catchy choruses. This is 10cc at their creative peak!
Its brilliant cover art was designed by the recently deceased Storm Thorgersson of Hipgnosis.

Marvin Gaye - Midnight Love

Midnight Love was Marvin Gaye's final album, conceived in 1982 after a long recluse in Oostende, Belgium. Midnight Love became his swansong album after Gaye went through a rough time, secluded from the mainstream and finding out where he belonged. We can safely say, it would be in the studio.
He wrote every song on Midnight Love himself, which culminated in the smash hit "Sexual Healing". We can only guess what gems Gaye would have produced in his later years, as his life was taken by his own father just 18 months later.
