I hope there will be torrencial rain, wind with hurricane speed, a complete electrical blackout for two or tree days, and shortage of food supply in the entire surroundings of Montpelier.
Apart from that, I wish you guys, a very pleasant weekend.

Well, if we have torrencial rain and hurricane's we will remain at the house listening music and drinking some wines (as you loved...), the blackout its not a problem cos i have solar cells plant and the battery are plenty for a couple a days and if a shortage of food supply occurs... the cellar is plenty of wine and its the most important point!... so, i think that it will be ok anyway !!!...

A visita em fotografias (Part I)
to be continued...

Falta o Manfred vir meter a boca no trombone.

Falta o Manfred vir meter a boca no trombone.

Hello all,
There is much to say about my crazy and exciting visit to Paulo, his family and some of his friends in Montpellier.
Let's start in a chronological order.
When I arrived Friday at Paulo's home after a 750 km ride, Paulo, his wife and her son did me heartily welcome. I soon realized that Paulo did very carefully schedule the visit with exciting events, planned exactly the food and brimmed fridge and wine cellar.
He told me that Pierre Faissat would come this evening for dinner. I was very pleased to meet the creator of the artful and clean design of my Anti-Lenco.
Between talking, listening and tasting the first wine(s), Paulo prepared the meal: a quiche of pear and Roquefort cheese, accompanied by a delicate salad of potatoes, special sweet onions from the Cevennes and smoked fish. The combination of the intensive Roquefort with the sweet taste of pear seemed quite exotical to me, but to my surprise, these both very opposed flavours merged perfectly to something third, a exceptional refined new taste! We talked a lot and Paulo opened one bottle of excellent wine after another, but I cannot remember to have had more than a few little glasses. He must have been drinking the most by himself.
To be continued ...
Btw. the cheese on the photo was the finish of the meal!

The saturday morning began very promising with sun, an azure sky and very soon the temperature was like in spring.
Because there was a technical problem with the vintage mechanics of my Anti-Lenco, le matin was dedicated to work. Fortunately all could be done outside in the garden. To change the motor, the turntable had to be disassembled and Paulo used the opportunity to apply an additional coat of woodwax to the the Anti-Lenco plinth, which gave the wood a very nice, semi gloss silky finish.
And I had the chance to take for the first time a look inside the Anti-Lenco, where every cutout and each constructive detail are paid attention and made as beautiful, precise and well-thought-out as the visible parts. For example I realized with surprise, that the plates of the tonearm connection terminals are handmade from a piece of massive copper, covered with black paint.
Paulo showed me then how he uses a wooden wine bottle box for tuning the motors to minimal noise. He demonstrated how a closed box resonates and amplifies the tiniest, unaudible mechanical vibrations to well audible noise. Therefore the Anti-Lenco plinths are not boxes but rather have a open design which helps to minimize parasitic vibrations and noise. This is substantial for a source component, because what is inaccurate at the very beginning, remains inaccurate forever.
To be continiued - and pictures will follow!

Somewhat the same ( a kind of?? ...) procedures undertaken with the local resident, downhere in the sunniest Lisboa, eh! eh! eh! ... * *

Manfred, careful, it's a con. It´s the fist time he looks at a Lenco. He is very good at putting that "expert" face, but as I sad, he is faking.

On saturday afternoon we went to Patrick. He lives in a small southern France village in traditional french house with an ancient vault in the basement. Perhaps you remember that sadly this space has been flooded in spring and the system was heavily damaged, the whole story is here: https://www.audioanalogicodeportugal.net/t8826-era-uma-vez After a heartily welcome by Patrick and his wife we went to the "cave" for a listening session.
Now, it's actually a very unique room, full of atmosphere, energy and peace at the same time, ideally suited for gathering with friends, talk and listen to fine music.
Today we would mainly listen to digital - and because Patrick has also an Anti-Lenco turntable which sets the standard for music source very high, he made great efforts optimizing the digital source as well. The music is ripped from CD and stored as FLAC on a NAS. Access is over a ethernet network by a Intel microcomputer as a streamer. The digital signal leaves the streamer via USB and then is converted to coaxial in a Stello USB-S/PDIF converter. The following DAC is a big version of the Olympic, built by Paulo on a bigger board, using better parts. It has a optimized power supply and a TTLD hybrid output stage. Preamp is the quite new Antiton Nirvana Meta based on the last evolution of the TTLD circuit. Power amps are very large Ultimo tube mono blocks. And there are two sets of speakers from Proac, the tiny Tablette Anniversary and the bigger Response D25 floorstanders.
Patrick showed up with an excellent red wine and forceful artisanal cheese.
I took place in the sweet spot, ready to take off.
I was warned before by Pierre and Paulo that listening chez Patrick could become a quite unique and even violent thing. So I was excited about the things to come!
Bruce Springsteen emerged from the nothing and played live, exclusively for us. Other tracks followed which showed an extraordinary 3D stage and almost spooky imaging, completely detached from the speakers. When I had the impression that the system was mainly about imaging and stage, there emerged suddenly a big, warm and perfectly defined forcefull double bass from the nothing.
Other live recordings folowed, and the recorded applause was rendered very natural without any edginess. I felt the urge to applaude myself. On another track the system showed it's extraordinary resolution and transparency when at a fairly high volume behind a dense woven "carpet" of electronic sound background vocals were clearly rendered with all natural detail, totally separated and untouched from what was going on in the front plane.
Then we listend to some classical tracks which blew me away. Never ever before I heard original instruments reproduced like here. While historic string instruments tend to sound overly thin and sharp on almost every system, this wasn't the case at all here. We heard no edginess, no sharpness, only subtelily, energy and the characteristig slender but rich harmony of the violin. Same thing with harpsichords.
Well, while I talked mainly about sonics, but in fact the outstanding sonic capabilities of the system allow a extremely direct and immediate connection to the music because it communicates and touches on every layer - emotional, intellectual and sensual. And so I was drawn totally into and absorbed by the music.
Finally I only can say thank you to Patrick and Paulo for this unique experience. It was one of the few listening sessions in lifetime which I never will forget and which has a lasting effect on my own way I want to listen at home!
In Patrick's system I had the extremely rare impression that it could reproduce the recordings in entire depth, emotionally and sonically. Not the tiniest detail seemed hidden, obscured or lost. And, sorry to say this in an analogue forum, a digital source can be exceptional musical - with some advantages to vinyl. I never would have believed how much is actually on plain 44,1 kHz/16 bit CD format. It's all there, but the way to get everything is not simple, in fact it needs the same amount of knowledge and carefulness to set up a totally transparent digital source than to build a great vinyl record playing machine.
And of course I'm grateful to AAP and all it's members, because without AAP I would have missed so many great experiences and wonderful encounters which have meanwhile a great impact on my life, not only audio.

That cavern has the same magic as the "original" cavern where the young Beatles performed over 200 times before there where famous.
Good electronics and acoustics, together with excelente wine and cheese...a combination made in haven.

...and (I almost forgot the most important), good friends that can put all this together.
